Manager
Hawaii Island Meat Cooperative is seeking a full-time manager to develop and implement a startup mobile slaughter unit business. Applicants must be able to work from home (office supplies will be provided) and have a reliable vehicle . Duties include: hiring and supervising butchers, financial tracking and reporting, working closely with the Cooperative board and producers, coordinating slaughter schedules, communicating with USDA inspectors, developing markets/buyers, ensuring quality standards, and finalizing USDA-FSIS grant of inspection & labeling. Knowledge of financial matters and budget controls required. Qualifications: BS Degree in Business Mgmt or Mgmt experience (5 years) on similar project startup; excellent communication skills; proficiency in Quickbooks and basic computer/internet functions; familiarity with Dept of Health & USDA-FSIS regulations for such operations, prior experience in a HACCP environment desirable.
Head Butchers
Hawaii Island Meat Cooperative is seeking part-time Head Butchers to oversee and implement mobile slaughter services. Applicants must have a reliable vehicle to reach processing sites and be able to work flexible hours. Duties include: refine operational procedures, help calibrate the unit, provide humane slaughter services in mobile facility, work with USDA inspector, supervise Assistant Butchers, track operations and procedures, and report to the Manager . Knowledge or past experience in humane slaughter techniques for cattle, pigs, sheep & goats, as well as USDA-FSIS inspection specifications, are required. Qualifications: Familiarity with HACCP & SSOP guidelines; be able to work a 10-hour day; and have experience with animal handling and humane slaughter of the various species described . Position is regionally-based; may develop into full time.
Assistant Butchers
Hawaii Island Meat Cooperative is seeking part-time Asst. Butchers to assist with mobile slaughter services for cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. Applicants must have a reliable vehicle to reach processing sites and be able to work flexible hours. Duties include: assist with humane slaughter of the species described under the supervision of Head Butcher and USDA inspector. Qualifications: Have experience with animal handling and humane slaughter. Position is regionally-based; may develop into full time.
